Abstract :
A novel concept for designing dense or sparsely aligned receiving antenna arrays used for millimeter-wave communications with self-mixing elements is introduced. For proving the concept, a four-element sparse antenna array operating from 8 GHz to 12 GHz is utilized. The proposed antenna array is realized as a prototype consisting of planar quasi-Yagi antennas, low noise amplifiers (LNAs), and diode based self-mixing mixers. Due to the self-mixing, compared to conventional antenna arrays, the proposed antenna array is able to receive signals with enhanced power from a wide angular range.
