Abstract :
An eight-element, dual-band, low profile multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) antenna system is proposed for access points within wireless local area networks (WLANs). Cylindrical dielectric resonator antennas (cDRAs) are used as the radiating elements. One group of four cDRAs covers the 2.45 GHz WLAN band while the other four antenna elements cover the second band at 5.8 GHz. By implementing a simple and compact metallic reflector, the far-field beam patterns are tilted with respect to one another to reduce correlations. The complete MIMO antenna system occupies 150 mm by 150 mm by 14.8 mm in size. In addition, the microstrip-based feeding networks are rotated 45° with respect to one another to occupy the smallest area within the 150 mm by 150 mm board.
