Abstract
A technique for calculating the effective dielectric constant for a square loop FSS located in a layered dielectric structure was developed using conformal mapping techniques. This was accomplished by approximating the FSS as a set of two coplanar strips, for which a conformal map already exists. This method yields results comparable to those found through simulation, while having a shorter computation time. Furthermore, this method can be used for arbitrary square loop FSS designs and layered dielectric structures.
