Abstract
In this paper, new dual-band phased array antenna (PAA) systems for microwave imaging and hyperthermia treatment applications reintroduced. The proposed 433/850 MHz dual-band antenna element consists of two printed folded-dipole antennas to achieve both good penetration depth for electromagnetic energy and resolution. Design parameters are optimized to focus the energy inside the tumor location, by controlling the excitation amplitudes and phases of the proposed PAA. A dual-band phased array using four antenna elements was designed and built. A layered cylindrical model of human tissue model is used. Two tumor location cases in the model center and in an arbitrary location inside the human tissue model were investigated and discussed. Simulation results are presented, showing the effect of the optimization process on the maximum value of the specific absorption rate (SAR) inside the tissue model by using different number of antenna elements.
