Abstract
Present paper describes the design, simulation and optimization of wide band gap coupled microstrip patch antenna at C-Band frequency. Gap coupled techniques in radiating patch and slots in its ground plane has been used to enhance the bandwidth of the antenna. The antenna has been simulated in HFSS software using proper boundary conditions. More than 10% impedance band width has been acheived in single layer microstrip configuration. The simulated gain of the antenna is better than 5 dBi over the desired frequency band of operation (i.e. 4.4 GHz to 5.0 GHz). The antenna is suitable for wide band applications in communication system.
