Abstract
Cloud computing data centers are the most popular computing paradigms to provide instant access of physical resources to the various user applications. These resources are available in cloud, in the form of most abstracted resource known as virtual machine using virtualization. To ensure the high quality of services, the performance and cost of data center is a critical parameter. With the help of effective placement plan of virtual machine over physical host, we can improve the performance and reduce the number of host used in data centers. Cloud provider must optimize the usage of physical resources with balanced allocation of VM to physical host. In this paper, important placement goals and constraints have been highlighted, which help the cloud provider in formulating the virtual machine placement problem and heuristics used in devising the most suitable and balanced placement plan.
