Abstract :
Accidents in inland waterways have become a serious problem in Bangladesh. Many people lost their lives in these accidents with a huge monetary losses as well. Overloading of passengers is the main reason behind the capsizing of these inland water vessels. Drivers and ship owners overload the vessel beyond the design limit in the peak seasons to maximize their profit. Their ignorance of the ship´s mechanisms, structure and safety factors increases the problem even more. Government´s attempt to prevent this problem gets wasted due to the corruption, bribery and lack of supervision. But all of these problems can be solved by implementing an autonomous monitoring system in each vessel which will monitor the loading and stability condition according to the safety criteria. In this paper, we have tried to develop such a device capable of monitoring the draft, displacement, meta-centric height, etc. crucial parameters for safety and stability based on its rolling motion. Due to its dynamicity, it can warn the crews and passengers, turn off the engine power and even send signal to the control room as soon as any safety criteria is violated. Besides, this device will mitigate the necessity of lengthy inclining experiment. Although this system is developed for the inland passenger vessels, its scope is beyond that and can be implemented in any seagoing vessels for dynamic monitoring with some minor modifications.
