Abstract :
This paper compares Scalar and Vector control of three phase nonlinear interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) in healthy and under inter turn fault (ITF) state. Finite element method based model of IPMSM is used for simulation, which considers all nonlinearities and magnetic characteristics of the core such as saturation, cross magnetization, core loss, and skin effect. In order to study the performance of both the control drives of IPMSM under ITF state, a co-simulation method has been proposed to collectively analyze the IPMSM and control drives. The co-simulation has been performed using MATLAB/SIMULINK, ANSYS MAXWELL, and ANSYS SIMPLORER. Furthermore, the simulation results of Scalar and Vector control were compared and experimentally verified. The results show the limit of validity of both the drives. Finally, it is concluded that vector control has better dynamic response and shows tolerance under ITF condition.
