  • Abstract
Switched reluctance machines (SRMs) are increasingly attractive thanks to their inherent advantages, such as robust and rare earth-free topology as well as excellent fault-tolerance and temperature management. However, the accurate and efficient analysis of SRMs are always challenging since they operate with variable reluctance and pulsating excitation, suffering severe nonlinear characteristics. This paper introduces a general power equation of SRM, which can be a powerful tool in the analysis of SRMs. An example case based on prototype is illustrated to validate the proposed equation. Then, the comparison between SRM and conventional machines is carried out to evaluate the power density of SRM.
