  • Abstract
This paper proposes an integrated power conversion system in electric vehicle using modular multilevel converter, whose modular structure could manage the integrated battery cells to simplify the traditional battery manage system (BMS) meanwhile provide the motor driving function and battery charging function without using additional hardware. The all-in topology could therefore maximize the capacity of all batteries and save the installation space simultaneously to reach a more compact design. To well elaborate the proposed system, the operational principles and control methods are fully investigated including SOC balancing control strategy in driving mode and DC or AC battery charging methods in charging mode. The proposed system is verified through Matlab simulation and a scaled down experimental prototype.
