Abstract :
In this paper, we propose a variable speed wind energy conversion system (WECS) based on a doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) and a flywheel energy storage system (FESS). The association of the FESS to the wind generator is for regulating and fixing the power delivered to the grid. The stator of the DFIG is connected directly to the grid while the rotor is connected and controlled through a cycloconverter. The FESS connected between the wind generator and the grid is based on a doubly fed induction machine (DFIM) and controlled via another cycloconverter. The powers control of this system is realized using stator flux oriented control and cosine-wave crossing control techniques. The mathematical model of the proposed system is presented and simulated to demonstrate its performance.
