Abstract :
Smart charging adds more sophisticated communication to the charging process of electric vehicles, thus enabling new features like time scheduling. Therefore, it can provide a valuable contribution to balancing the power grid, as the charging process can be scheduled in a way, that load peaks in the grid may be reduced. The protocols necessary for smart charging, such as ISO 15118, are currently being standardized. In this paper a modular software implementation for smart charging stations is proposed. As programming platform Node.js is chosen, due to its asynchronous programming, as well as its non blocking functionality. For evaluation purposes this software is implemented on a demonstrator, which is made mostly from off-the-shelf modules.
