Abstract :
The latest of Europe´s sevenyear science R&D programmes, Horizon 2020, began on 1 January 2014 with new, streamlined rules. This may, however, make competition tougher than ever before. Of the ???7.8bn to be spent in 2014, down slightly from ???8.1bn in 2013, ???1.8bn will support Europe´s industrial leadership in areas such as manufacturing and ICT.
