Abstract
Recent dramatic advance of information and communication technologies has yielded new environments around us. However, its penetration differs area by area. For the realization of a future broadband environment that everyone can enjoy everywhere, several technical issues have to be resolved before networks can be migrated. One such key is the use of fiber-optics in the home and for mobile services. This paper overviews initial observations drawn from numerical survey data gathered over the last decade in several countries/regions, and will give some example scenarios for network/service evolution.
