Abstract
Hexagon shaped UWB Coplanar antenna using SRR is constructed on an FR4 substrate with a dimension of 26 × 32 × 1.6mm having a dielectric constant εr = 4.4 and thickness (h) 1.6mm. SRR is used in this antenna to obtain negative permeability in order to improve the gain, directivity and return loss. Two circular slots are made in the patch, in order to reject the WiMAX/WLAN bands. The designed and fabricated antenna is effectively simulated and measured using HFSS14 and tested using the Network analyser [Rohde & Schwarzzv] (9khz - 13.6Ghz). The antenna has an impedance bandwidth from 3.25-11.9Ghz, Gain 2.37dbi and directivity 2.61dbi. The antenna has a triangular edge cut at the upper corners and lower opposite corners in order to achieve circular polarization and bandwidth enhancement. In UWB frequency band, the fabricated antenna is characterized by excellent return loss and radiation pattern. The results validate that the antenna meets the conditions of UWB communications and will be an effective solution for UWB application such as short distance data transfer at high speed.
