  • Abstract
    The ultimate limit to the achievable information rate of Space Division Multiplexed (SDM) transmission systems based on multimode fiber optic structures is set by the fiber nonlinearity. In this work we review the main features of nonlinear propagation in SDM fibers in the presence of random mode coupling and show that modal dispersion reduces the intra-channel nonlinear interference between modes.
