Abstract
Secure operation of an interconnected power system requires close monitoring of the system operating conditions. Recently the phasor measurement units (PMU) are being implemented in monitoring real-time operation of power system. It is neither necessary nor economic to place PMU in all buses of the connected network. The main objective of this paper is to provide full system observability, allocating minimum number of PMUs by considering Zero Injection Constraints. Optimal placement of PMU is attained using Integer Linear Programming (ILP) which shows most adaptability in terms of modeling network of PMUs. Simulation results for Standard IEEE 14 bus and 30 bus systems are validated and compared with various optimization techniques in this paper.
