Abstract :
Temperature, wind speed, H2O, and O3 retrieval performance in the upper stratosphere and mesosphere was estimated using 485-489 GHz sub-mm limb sounder with 500 kHz resolution (2.5 kHz resolution for wind speed). Two instrument, one is 4K-cooled successor of SMILES, and the other is a compact room temperature instrument, are considered. Temperature can be retrieved within 2K precision at 15-100 km (4K cooled) and 18-85 km (room temp). Wind speed can be retrieved within 2 m/s at 40-100 km (4K cooled) and 50-90 km (room temp). H2O can be retrieved within 5% at 20-80 km (4K cooled) and 20-70 km (room temperature).
