Abstract :
In this paper, we present a novel balancing method for nonlinear systems in the contraction framework. We define two energy functions via variational systems. These novel controllability and observability functions can be used for model reduction of nonlinear systems. We analyze their properties, use for balancing, and application to model order reduction.
