Abstract
This paper presents the design of a smart geyser controller that can relay information between two functional units making use of low power IEEE 802.15.4 radios, with the objective of lowering the power consumption of a household geyser. The first operational unit measures the environmental data of the geyser, i.e. water temperature, voltage, current and power measurements, and also switches the geyser on and off. The other functional unit is used to display information to the user and also connects to a PC where environmental data is stored in a local database for historical review. This database is used to create a priority time table, which forms the basis of the operational optimization algorithm.
