Abstract
The blackening of the aluminum oxide surface by a nanosecond pulse fiber laser with 1 micrometer wavelength has been investigated. The blackening effect is strongly depending on the laser parameters such as pulse energy, repetition rate, scanning speed, hatching etc. By measuring the CIE L* value, the relationship and to what extent these laser parameters affecting the blackening effect is investigated. The reflectivity of the blackening area is also measured.
