Abstract
There are many new challenges facing universities in the past decade due to globalization and shift of paradigm arising from a multimediated technology driven environment. While the core functions of universities remain the storage, processing and dissemination of knowledge, it is, however, getting more difficult for tertiary institutions to sustain a global education platform that maintains quality in teaching, learning, research and knowledge transfer in responding to the dramatically changing socio-economic pressures. The ever evolving educational landscapes, exponentially increasing demand of higher education but decreasing government funding, coupled with the changing nature of knowledge, new modeling of teaching and learning, student/parent expectation and global competition make the situation for universities even more complex and problematic. In this talk, the speaker attempts to share his personal view on the new challenges on the core functions of universities in this internet driven global era.
