Abstract
There is an increasing use for laminated toroidal cores materials in several applications at different ranges of power rating and magnetising frequencies. Cutting process for the laminations is one of the factor for the power losses increase due to short circuit between layers known as edge burrs. The aim of this paper is to present the results of measurements for the specific power loss of the electrical steel obtained for two toroidal core samples of different dimensions. The measurements were performed at 1.5 T and different range of magnetizing frequency. Moreover, this work includes the impact of short circuit between the laminations hence artificial burrs were applied to simulate the effect of this phenomenon on the total power loss at different frequencies. Furthermore, COMSOL Multi-Physics modelling software is used to investigate the surface flux distribution.
