Abstract
On-chip Stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) is at the focus of current research because of its potential for integration of a variety of important photonic functionalities. In general, however, short length scales remain a challenge for on-chip nonlinear optics. Here, we demonstrate a concept for selectively enhancing and inhibiting nonlinear interactions on a chip by exploiting the frequency dependence of the optical density-of-states near the edge of a photonic-bandgap. We use this concept to enhance and inhibit on-chip SBS.
