Abstract :
Wireless Smart Utility Network (Wi-SUN) combining TV White Space (TVWS), which leverages the benefits of TVWS for Wi-SUN with a view to improvement associated with coverage, bandwidth, scalability of current Wi-SUN, receives overwhelming attention. The recently released standard IEEE 802.15.4m details techniques to enable Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN) work in TVWS. We develop the first IEEE 802.15.4m compliant TVWS-Wi-SUN system, including the system design and prototype implementation. Furthermore, a series of laboratory experiments are performed to characterize the developed prototype transceiver performance. Any differences in performance between simulation and laboratory experiments are emphasized and analyzed. Laboratory experiment results provide the strong evidence that the developed prototype transceiver fulfills the requirements defined by IEEE 802.15.4m. Additionally, our work lays out a solid foundation for the practical application of the TVWS-Wi-SUN system.
