Abstract :
In this paper, a 60 GHz short-range spatial multiplexing architecture for a 2 × 2 MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) system is proposed and analyzed. High-speed communications can be achieved at 60 GHz thanks to the availability of 7 GHz of unlicensed bandwidth and strong free-space attenuation, allowing efficient spectrum reuse. Spatial multiplexing MIMO techniques can also be used to furher improve the data rate. A computer model using measured results of 8 patches microstrip antenna array for both transmitter and receiver antennas is proposed to analyze a MIMO spatial multiplexing architecture which diagonalize the channel matrix in hardware, by tuning certain physical parameters. This method avoids the conventional MIMO signal processing which requires high speed embedded DSP. Measurement results of the spatial multiplexing systems are also presented. This study proves that the capacity of the proposed MIMO system can be considerably increased compared to SISO (Single-Input-Single-Output) under certain conditions.
