Abstract :
This paper describes new design scheme, simulation and measurement results of a crossed slot cavity antenna on the basis of the recently proposed slow-wave substrate integrated waveguide technology (SW-SIW). The antenna has been designed to operate at 5.8 GHz, in the industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) frequency band. Thanks to the slow-wave effect obtained by the physical separation of electric and magnetic fields in the structure the size of the antenna has been reduced by 34% in comparison with the classic version of SIW. The proposed antenna was fabricated and tested: good performance was obtained in terms of return loss and radiation pattern. With the design, the return loss is lower than 10 dB in the 5.78-5.87 GHz frequency range with an interesting measured 3.06 dBi gain. The proposed antenna is easy to integrate with planar circuits because of the low-profile.
