Abstract :
This paper discusses the modern trend in power networks regarding the applications of Power Electronic devices and how they are replacing the conventional methods of improving the power networks performance. The role of Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) for voltage stability and reactive power compensation is described and how FACTS controllers are making our power systems more efficient. The main focus is on the role of Static Var Compensator (SVC) and Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) in improving the voltage and power stability of the power networks. In the end a comparison is being made between these FACTS controllers.
