Abstract :
In this paper, the cost of a new access network architecture suitable for backhauling is estimated and compared to that of Metro Ethernet and TWDM NGPON-2 architectures. Towards this direction several scenarios of area types, traffic and demand are investigated in terms of total costs and pure cost (excluding common costs). Network dimensioning is performed in order to evaluate the number of the required components in each of the architectures under investigation. Based on these data and cost estimations of network components, we calculate the overall cost and show that PANDA outperforms both Metro Ethernet and TWDM NGPON-2 architectures mainly due the higher use of resource sharing.
