Abstract :
A Wireless Sensor and Actor Network (WSAN) is a group of wireless devices with the ability to sense physical events (sensors) or/and to perform relatively complicated actions (actors), based on the sensed data shared by sensors. In order to provide effective sensing and acting, a coordination mechanism is necessary among sensors and actors. This coordination can be distributed-local coordination among the actors or centralized coordination from a remote management unit, usually known as sink in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). In this work, we propose a simulating system in based on MATLAB [1], which focuses on actor selection problem in WSAN, while considering different aspects of WSANs including coordination, power management and connectivity. We call it Sensor Actor Matlab Implementation (SAMI). We aim to develop a simulator, which gives adequate results for several types of applications. We describe the implementation of a part of the simulator and conduct simulations considering 3 parameters, actor and task type correlation, distance of actor from the task and the energy required for task completion. Then, by integrating three methods of selection, the simulator gives us results about the lifetime of actors and WSANs.
