Basic system of sea navigation for a maneuvering support system

Many advanced navigation devices have been installed on board small vessel to ensure their safety by avoiding marine disasters. However, the number of marine disasters involving small vessels has not declined significantly. Causes for this lack of reduction are human error, crew members inexperienced in ship maneuvering, etc. Therefore, a new maneuvering support system is needed. This paper deals with the construction of a maneuvering support system. In road traffic, a car navigation system has been generally used and has been effective in reducing road accidents. We constructed a sea navigation system named for the car navigation system. The results of field experiments and a questionnaire have confirmed the effectiveness of this system.
