Abstract :
This paper proposes a single current sensor based drive for permanent magnet brushless DC motor (PMBLDCM) equipped with power quality (PQ) controller for variable speed variable torque applications e.g. fans, pumps and blowers. A non-isolated, single-ended primary inductor converter (SEPIC) fed from AC mains through a diode bridge rectifier (DBR) is used as power quality controller at AC mains. The load torque and speed control is proposed through a single current sensor control and DC link voltage control strategies respectively. The proposed converter and controllers are designed and modelled for a 1.1 KW, 1400 rpm, 7.4 Nm PMBLDC motor. The simulated performance under steady state and transient conditions in MATLAB/Simulink, are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed concepts.
