Abstract :
This paper provides new insights into the feasibility of energy optimal transportation by exploiting weather conditions using road surface and wind data. The approach proposes to alter the speed profile along a route, depending on available weather data. It also incorporates energy optimal routing. The task is formulated as a deterministic as well as a robust optimization problem, where weather conditions either are assumed to be known exactly or within certain uncertainty bounds. Driving strategies are suggested and simulations illustrate the achievable efficiency improvements.
