Abstract :
We design a bit-level OEO-based Reach Extender (RE) for a symmetric-rate 10-Gbit/s Ethernet passive optical network (10/10G-EPON), and analyze the upstream bandwidth efficiency according to burst overhead size. The proposed OEO-based RE increases the link budget of 58 dB through a signal retiming, and accommodates an existing optical distribution network (ODN). In this paper, we can connect efficiently the connection of 128 ONUs with a bursty overhead length of 950 ns in our RE. We also perform the feasibility in an environment of 1:128 @ 50 km with the commercialized 10/10G-EPON system.
