Abstract
The nonlinear interaction of electromagnetic waves guided by uniform infinitely extended dielectric cylinder surrounded by a homogeneous magnetized plasma has been considered. The dispersion characteristics of guided waves in the resonant band of whistler frequency range are analyzed. It is shown that under certain conditions dielectric cylinder is capable of guiding proper (eigen) modes. The main attention is given to the parametric instability of the electromagnetic surface waves propagating in the positive and negative directions of the z axis. For the some practically interesting cases, analytical and numerical results illustrating the characteristics of the surface waves are presented.
