Abstract :
This paper presents the comparative steady-state analysis results of two commercial induction machines (IMs) based on cage rotor using finite-element analysis (FEA) and equivalent-circuit model (ECM). The two IMs having identical ratings of voltage, current, and capacity are a conventional induction machine (CIM) and a high-efficiency induction machine (HEIM). The computer-aided design (CAD) software based on finite-element method (FEM) is employed to analyze flux distribution and steady-state performance of the two IMs under selected slips. Comparative results of the two IMs under braking, motoring, and generator modes of operation using FEM are also presented. Two operating modes, self-excited induction generator and grid-connected induction generator, of the two IMs are analyzed using ECS. Both experimental and simulated steady-state results of the two IMs under the specified three operating modes are performed and compared in order to highlight the important features of the high-efficiency IM under various operating conditions.
