Abstract :
This paper presents the results of a power quality study carried out in an industrial distribution system. The main objective of the study was to quantify the impact caused by voltage sags in industrial processes. A series of measurements of power quality variations were taken at the substation that feeds the circuit and at the point common coupling of each industrial user. The new standard IEEE Std 1564-2014 Guide for Voltage Sag Indices was used to determine the indicators to assess the severity of voltage sags and also the calculation method. The severity of voltage sags is selected when the probability of generating an interruption in a process or a device can be measured. Thus, an analysis of the quality of the supply voltage can be done. The IEEE Std 1564-2014 will be implemented first to analyze the severity of voltage sags in the substation that feeds the industrial system. Then, the severity of the voltage sag will be calculated at the point common coupling in each of the industrial users. Based on this calculation, the relationship between the voltage sag severity in the substation and at each point common coupling is obtained. Finally, the correlation between the interruptions caused by voltage sags at point common coupling and the overall voltage sag severity is obtained. Recommendations can then be made to engineering practices in industrial processes.
