Abstract :
Now days cabtyre cables are widely used in power distribution systems due to low cost and flexibility. It is necessary to have an accurate cable models to predict switching surges. In this paper, measurement based on theory of natural modes is the prime base of this study for a transient characteristic on the cabtyre cable. A cabtyre cable model is developed for Electro Magnetic Transient Program (EMTP) based on physical geometry at single frequency. A method of a frequency dependent distributed parameter is also proposed. A cabtyre cable frequency characteristic of characteristic impedance and propagation constant are studied and discussed based on exponential functions using EMTP Semlyen´s distributed line model for aerial modes. The proposed method accurately introduces transient characteristic of cable into a circuit analysis method. This study supports to develop a generalized frequency dependent cabtyre cable model for circuit analysis method.
