Abstract :
This paper proposes a power conversion system (PCS) for zinc-bromine (Zn-Br) flow battery based energy storage system. The operation principle of the flow battery is discussed, and the entire hardware configuration is proposed. The PCS consists of four dc-dc converter, one dc-ac inverter, and battery management system (BMS). The battery control strategy including the PCS and the stripping operation is described to perform the charging and the discharging of the flow battery in stable. The proposed PCS is successfully adopted into 25kW Zn-Br flow battery, and experimentally verified its operation.
