Abstract :
Energy storage technique is one of the most effective technique means for the regulation of wind power. Aiming at smoothing the fluctuation of wind power and maintaining bus voltage, this paper proposed a hybrid energy storage system (HESS) based on cascaded multilevel STATCOM, containing a battery and a super-capacitor. And the active and reactive power coordination control strategy was also developed. Based on these models, a simulation platform of STATCOM/HESS and wind farm was developed using PSCAD/EMTDC. Simulation results showed that the problems of wind power fluctuation and low voltage ride through (LVRT) of wind farm connected to the power grid can be well solved in the case of random wind and serious disturbance in power grid.
