Abstract :
Energy consumption is one of the key challenges faced by cloud computing. In this paper, we investigate ways of improving the energy usage of cloud computing environments by better resource management and consolidation. Our methodology focuses on critically reviewing and comparing the existing methods that are available in relation to schedulers and allocation policies through a simulated environment and experimentation. The experiments evaluate the energy efficiency of the identified schedulers and allocation policies in the CloudSim environment. The results highlight which policy performs the best at energy reduction whilst maintaining the service level agreement (SLA). This is potentially a valuable source of information for future energy efficiency control in real-world cloud computing environments.
