Abstract
Smart homes provide unique information platform with different communication technologies including both licensed and unlicensed frequency bands. The number of these small cells is forecast to become huge, which eliminate the traditional network deployment and operational techniques. At present, the internet access of a smart home is dependent on the unreliable customer broadband connection for its backhaul transmission, mainly because of cost and local regulations. Unlike traditional macro cells with limited access capability, small cells network is backhaul limited. This paper presents a cooperative backhaul aggregation scheme. The main aim of our scheme is the reduction in difference between user demand and available backhaul resources by utilizing the surplus bandwidth in the neighbour cells. Based on the Max-Min Fair (MMF) principle, we formulate the optimization problem to minimize the gap between demand and available resources, and it also attempt to maximize the user satisfaction level with fair distribution of aggregated resources. Simulation results indicate that our model outperforms the non-aggregated schemes even under worst conditions.
