  • Abstract
Differential-signal transmission performances good noise immunity and low EMI characteristics benefiting from its symmetry architecture. While asymmetry occurs in the differential architecture due to process or other imperfect factors, these advantages forfeit and would cause more bit error rate to the communication system due to skew or mode conversion. In order to interpret the phenomenon and physical meaning of mode conversion and intra-pair skew in the differential signal transmission, the TDR, time domain reflection, and TDT, time domain transmission, of differential micro-strip lines with asymmetric traces are simulated in the condition of different trace widths, spaces and lengths. Besides, obtaining the same differential characteristic impedance, 100 ohm, the TDR and TDT of micro-strip lines with different trace widths and spaces are also simulated and analyzed. Furthermore, the loss factors of a differential micro-strip line are also analyzed by the energy conservation principle.
