Abstract :
Software systems deployed in a city offer services for users roaming around a city. These systems must cope with an ever changing environment, making them complex to develop, manage, and maintain. Problems encountered in the development of city-wide services include the discovery of unknown service components, the management and composition of components according to their surrounding environment, and assurances that unknown services do not compromise the system´s execution. We put forward programming language design as a means to reduce the additional complexity of developing open and adaptive systems, and foster their development for smart services.
