Abstract
This research work proposes dimensioning approach to provision Machine-to-Machine application services along with Human-to-Human baseline services on Second and Third Generation Cellular Networks, in order to mitigate any potential impacts on the packet-switched domain of the core network, or any noticeable influences on the network performance of baselines services. The approach is based on modelling the contribution of the data traffic and signalling throughput of each application on packet-switched interfaces bandwidth utilization, and simulating application´s performance delay and signalling processing time using Riverbed Modeler tool. The simulation results show that increasing the number of M2M devices affects the performance of some Human-based application depending on their QoS priority level, and decreasing transmission intervals could cause potential signalling overhead on some interfaces and delay of signalling processing time.
