  • Abstract
This work proposes and numerically investigates a high-performance omnidirectional dual-reflector antenna based on a dielectric subreflector support and a shaped main reflector that provides a cosecant square radiation pattern in the elevation plane. Two mechanical subreflector supports were considered: three metallic rods with circular cross section; a cylindrical homogeneous dielectric radome with electrical permittivity of 2.08. Numerical electromagnetic analyses were performed using ANSYS HFSS based on a hybrid technique that combines Finite Element Method (FEM) and Method of Moments (MoM). The proposed antenna with a dielectric support provides an omnidirectional radiation pattern in the horizontal plane with approximately 9.8dBi gain at 9.3GHz, which represents a significant improvement compared to conventional omnidirectional antennas that typically provide gains from 2.0 to 5.0 dBi.
