Abstract :
This paper presents the channel capacity analysis for next generation mobile networks using millimeter waves (mmW) under generalized fading scenarios. α-μ and κ-μ fading channels, which respectively represent the nonlinearities of the propagation medium and the small-scale variations of the fading signal under line-of-sight, that are the typical expected scenarios for mmW, are investigated here. Ergodic and Outage capacities over α-μ and κ-μ fading scenarios, considering the frequencies 28 GHz, 38 GHz, 60 GHz and 73 GHz with 1 GHz of bandwidth are presented and analyzed here. In addition, Shannon capacity is rewritten in order to investigate the channel capacity limits for mmW. Comparisons are performed with current mobile systems and the results show that next generation wireless networks using millimeter waves are suitable for very high traffic data in short range communications.
