Abstract
This paper describes the comparison of the mutual coupling mechanisms between two different feeding structures such as coplanar waveguides and SIW-based feeding in array antenna for the application of satellite communication. It is usually well-know that both feeding structures of co-planar waveguides and SIWs are good candidates for the design of high frequency antenna with the help of easy integration, implementation with other active and passive devices, and low-loss characteristics. Hence, the interference or coupling mechanism in array antenna is investigated and comparison will be carried out according to the feeding types. In addition, in the proposed array working at X-band ranging from 8 to 8.5GHz for the application of satellite communication, 2X2 array antennas using sequential feeding are designed using CPW and SIW structures. In particular, it is shown that the interference level due to the SIW structure has been significantly improved rather than that of CPW structure by using a commercially available full-EM software.
