Abstract
This paper presents the effect of an EBG, electromagnetic band-gap structure on a PIFA. The EBG structures have special electromagnetic properties such as high surface impedance and suppression of propagating surface currents within a frequency band, which are very useful for wireless applications. A novel EBG ground plane with Archimedes spiral structure will be presented. The employment of Archimedes spiral structure on EBG will improve the bandwidth, gain and directivity as well as reduce the size.
