Abstract :
Emerging load demand cannot be fulfilled by the output of one generator. Therefore two or more generators should be synchronized in order to share the load. The synchronizing variables of voltage magnitudes, frequency of the voltages, phase angle difference between the voltages and the phase sequence of the voltages should be considered. Synchronizers are widely employed in the industry. University students learn the theories of synchronization. Most of the laboratories in universities do not have practical modules or laboratory equipment to demonstrate the synchronization process. Traditional synchronization systems are not suitable for the visualization of generator synchronization. “A Practical Module for Generator Synchronization System” is designed to overcome the problem of understanding synchronization process. This system is useful for the students in understanding the synchronization process along with the real time simulation of the synchronization. The system will demonstrate the synchronization process of two generator outputs either manually or automatically. It will also synchronize two generators. The system consists of voltmeters to give the voltage of generator output, frequency meters to give the frequencies of voltages, bulb system to indicate phase sequence, a synchroscope and a phase meter to indicate the pulse width variation of two voltage outputs. The system is prepared for the laboratory equipment and tested under the laboratory conditions. This paper presents how the separate sections of A Practical Module for Generator Synchronization System were developed and its results.
